Petting zoo at Speikboden

During summer season, the ski area is transformed into an exciting playground for children: the children's zoo at Speikboden Alm at 2000m is home to a variety of animals such as bunnies, chickens, calves and small ponies. The animals are child-friendly, so children can pet and feed them without fear. The caretakers of the children's zoo, Seppl and Sigi, are available to provide the children with valuable information about the animals.

The animals are well cared for and live in a species-appropriate environment that corresponds to their natural habitat. For children, a visit to the zoo becomes a special experience, especially when animal-babies are announced among the animals.

NEW: Our petting zoo has moved! 
You can now find it at the valley station of the Alm-Express cable car. From the Speikboden mountain station, a short and pleasant walk will take you to the Alm-Express mountain station. From there, you can use the cable car Alm-Express free of charge and ride directly down to the petting zoo. We look forward to welcoming you! ?

BREAD BAKING

Every Thursday in July, August and September

Every Thursday there aren`t only the animals waiting for you, but also our traditional South Tyrol bread. In the morning we start with the preparation of the dough. Later we bake the bread in a wood-fired oven so you can taste it in the afternoon.

Pony rides at the children's zoo

Daily from July 15th to September 01st, 2023, 11.00 - 16.00

If you've ever dreamed of being a cowboy or cowgirl, pony rides are the perfect opportunity to bring that fantasy to life. Our friendly ponies are well trained and love to interact with people.

Cats

The cats Betti and Frida have recently moved from Mühlwald to our  mini zoo. Their job is to get all the mice of Speikboden. When you visit them, they are especially happy about an intensive petting session.

Goats

The "Tauernschecke" Olga is the boss of the petting zoo. Together with the five dwarf goats, she really enjoys the visitors' attention. But when she has to return into the stall in the evening, she sometimes runs away from the shepherds.

Rabbits

Cappuccino the bunny likes running through the alpine grasslands together with his four friends. Their favourite food is fresh grass or yellow flowers. The other day there were even new rabbits: the horde of rabbits has grown by two little bunnies.

Calves

Elke, the calf, came to the children's zoo together with her friend Karla. When you feed them, they are certainly happy. But what they like most of all is to be caressed on their heads. You can only fall in love with these two!

Pigs

The pigs Sepp and Manni enjoy with their mates the green meadows and the cosy stable. They prefer to laze around, but sometimes they also play around on the alpine fields.

Inside the henhouse

The two cocks Siggi and Johannes are the ones in charge in the big henhouse. Many other hens live there too and lay lots of eggs. If you will ask kindly, you might get an egg for free.

Duck pool

In the small pond next to the Speikboden Alm station, our seven ducks refresh themselves in the cool water. It is heart-warming to watch the animals waddling around in a row.

Marmot burrow

A few marmots have settled above our children`s zoo. These animals like to live in isolation in their burrow, which they dig into the ground with their sharp claws. When they come out, you can hear their loud whistling and maybe see their long teeth and brown fur.
