Cold mountain streams, specular mountain lakes and waterfalls are getting together here. The water revives the valley!
The peculiarity of the water is also exhibited in the Valley: In the museum "Magie des Wassers" in Lappach, you get to know water from its various sides. The people of the valley appreciate its special features and secrets.
The Ahrntal has something special to offer for allergy sufferers: The “Klimastollen” in the health village Prettau. Breathe deeply in and out during your holiday in Ahrntal and regain your health with every breath! Love touches the stomach, this also applies to the Ahrntal: Come and learn about the regional cuisine of the valley in the rustic mountain huts and fine restaurants. Why not try homemade “Graukäse” or ravioli. Eight villages are part of the valley, each of which is special in its own way: The crib exhibition in Luttach or the mineral museum in St. Johann, the ski resort or the high ropes course in Steinhaus...the Ahrntal convinces with many things that elsewhere do not exist in this shape or form.

The community of Sand in Taufers (858-1.595m) is located within the Rieserferner-Ahrn natural park and encompasses the villages of Rein in Taufers, Kematen, Mühlen in Taufers, and Ahornach as well as the main town of Sand. Towering over Sand in Taufers is the medieval Taufers castle, one of the province’s mighty edifices. Yet innovation gets great emphasis here: In 2008, Sand in Taufers won the European Village Renewal Award. The Mühlwaldertal near Mühlwald and Lappach extends itself in the form of an arch at the foot of the mighty three thousand meters high Weißzint and the Großer Möseler and on into the heart of the Zillertal Alps.

For energetic but also for connoisseurs, there is something here: Who can say no to traditional dumplings with cabbage or turnip salad in a rustic cabin?! On two boards or even a single one you can really let off steam on the family ski lift in the Alpinwellt Weißenbach: You do not even have to be a pro.

Steinhaus
In literally the center of Ahrntal, the village Steinhaus is to be found: The capital of Ahrntal is known for its mining museum, which is located in the “Kornkasten”. “Kornkasten” in this case means the food magazine of the mine. The works of miners can still be marvelled at in the repurposed Prettau mining museum today. The healing powers of the climate mine should bring a few symptom-free days in the valley for allergic people. Wellbeing and health find together in the so-called respiration lodges. Prettau stands for simplicity, which does not mean uninteresting, quite the contrary: in Prettau you can learn more about the common traditions, such as the "Klöppeln", a craft similar to crocheting.
